On the eastern fringes of Basilicata, just over 30 kilometres from the Ionian Sea coast, is a valley, overlooked by the charming hill-town of Montescaglioso. In this secluded fertile valley is an agricultural enterprise, that is also an agriturismo, offering eight charming houses for rent. Very rural, populated by a people that are still very friendly and proud of their land and traditions, this is a holiday base for enjoying the simpler things of life. Each house accommodates two sets of guests, hence is semi-detached, and have their own covered furnished terrace for al fresco relaxation and dining.

The agriturismo is immaculately laid out with lush well-tended lawns and paths linking the various buildings. They make their own olive oil, passata sauce, bottled peppers and artichokes and a variety of local specialities. An on-site restaurant is available for delicious pre-booked lunches and dinners.  Other facilities on site include a large shared swimming pool, a barbecue area and a small football pitch.  It is also possible hire bikes here.

Location

The nearest town is Montescaglioso 8 kilometres away up the valley and, apart from  possessing the essential shops, banks and chemists, it is noted for its lovely Benedictine abbey of San Michele. For more bustle, the provincial capital of Matera is 20 kilometres away. Here you can visit the unique and ancient 'Sassi', now a UNESCO world heritage site. Within a 30 minute drive are the wonderful sandy beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
