Once upon time, in a land of humble beginnings and home to the ancient world’s most powerful city stood an oasis of comfort and happiness in the form of L’Antico Casale.
This storybook villa is a wonderful home from home for those who visit this region; just 2kms from the town of Lubriano and equi-distant between Orvieto (14km) and the delightful Lake Bolsena (16km).
Nestled amongst the trees it offers privacy and security and when spring arrives so do the white roses that adorn this deceptively spacious home. Light and airy with traditional touches such as exposed stone walls and wonderful arched windows that frame the picturesque gardens and views beyond.
Extensive gardens with an olive grove and wonderful swimming pool create a peaceful oasis yet L’Antico Casale is just a short distance from the town of Lubriano itself and accessed from the road directly from the villa. Therefore, the convenience of the location does generate a low level of traffic noise when outside, but cannot be heard once inside the villa itself.
Location
The hilltop town of Lubriano is somewhat of a popular favourite amongst visitors and gastronomes to this region arriving to experience the well-famed choice of restaurants and soak up the dramatic views across the Calanchi Valley. Located on the border of Northern Lazio and Southern Umbria it is halfway between Rome and Florence and therefore a very popular base.
The ancient walled city of Viterbo is worth a visit, the lava stone walls were first built in 1095 and still to this day oozes history and importance. The centre itself is famed for being one of the best-preserved and popular with film crews in search of an authentic backdrop.
Enjoy walking through the medieval streets, visit the Papal Palace, the Centre of the National Museum and the Chiesa di Santa Maria. It is also a popular choice for those antique hunters.
Just outside Viterbo is the natural hot springs of Bullicame. Now a thermal spa complex you can enjoy various treatments and bathe in the ancient waters.
Also within easy reach and definitely worth visiting are Lazio’s lakes; Bolsena, Vico and Bracciano. Wine lovers must take a trip to Montefiascone, home to the famous white wine Est! Est! Est! The Umbrian towns of Orvieto and Todi are also there for exploring.
Just over an hour’s drive (approx) is the Eternal City itself; essential stops include Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, the Vatican City in addition to a whole host of archaeological treasures and magnificent works of art. So maybe all roads lead to Rome after all..........
