General
Live like a true Sicilian at this delightful Italian home just 8km from the beautiful stretch of coastline of Castellammare del Golfo.
The Sicilian ceramic flooring, timber beamed ceilings and typical ceramic patterned sinks within the kitchen, all create a real taste of Italian living and with a real emphasis on comfort.
The cosy sitting/dining/kitchen area is at the heart of Villa Fraginesi with satellite TV for all those who wish to keep up with world events.
But outdoor living is the way of true Sicilian life and with its own outdoor kitchen area with pizza oven and wonderful large open veranda that wraps around the villa itself means dining al fresco is a must for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Private and secure, the property is accessed through a double gated entrance with an extensive driveway and area for parking. The pretty lawned gardens are well stocked with colourful plants and flowers, of terracotta pots spilling over and a whole range of trees that create a real private feel to Villa Fraginesi.
Location
The pretty little picturesque town of Castellammare del Golfo bursts with energy and activity during the summer months. This coastal town roughly translated as Sea Fortress of the Gulf, sits in the famous gulf of Northwest Sicily.
Its harbour is dominated by its castle, claiming both Arab and Norman heritage, and is one of the town’s biggest tourist attractions with an interesting little museum (free entrance). There is a wonderful array of restaurants, pizzeria’s & bars here where you can enjoy a hand-made gelato or a refreshing Sicilian granita. You can also catch a boat excursion including a trip that sails around the peninsula allowing you to see the national park of Zingaro and the hilltop town of Scopello from the sea.
The harbour is a hive of activity during the morning with fisherman in their typical blue and white boats, as they return with their catch of the day to supply the local restaurants and markets.
If you wish to explore a little further afield for a real taste of Sicily, then Castellammare del Golfo is an excellent base for exploring. The nearby city of Trapani was almost all but destroyed during WWII, however the old town is still worth a visit including the restored Cattedrale di San Lorenzo.
The small collection of islands known as the Egadi Islands, lie just off Trapani’s coastline and two of these islands are just a 30 minute boat trip away, where one can swim, dive, cycle and explore.
But a trip to this region would not be complete without experiencing the capital of Palermo. Layered with history there are almost too many things here to see, the Cathedral and Catacombs of Cappucini sit comfortably next to The Modern Art Gallery and Teatro Massimo, Italy’s largest indoor theatre.
