It is the season of the carnival with many towns and cities becoming a wash of colour and celebration.
Viareggio Carnival (8 March) The Viagreggio Carnival is famous world-wide for its spectacular floats that satirise public and political figures that parade through the city, much to the enjoyment of all who witness this spectacle.
In true Italian style, each parade culminates with a gastronomic event and a huge firework display.
We have a wonderful selection of apartments, cottages and villas throughout Tuscany, allowing you to experience the celebrations of Viareggio, the tranquillity of the landscapes and the artistic cities of Pisa, Lucca & Florence.

Verona Carnival (4 March) This grand parade of masks and traditional distribution of gnocchi (potato dumplings), is strangely in honour of Il Papa dello Gnocca. Daddy Gnocchi was a local nobleman who in 1660 celebrated the end of the terrible plague that struck Verona and wiped out many of its population by cooking up the famous dish and handing it out to those in the city.
Milano – Sanremo Cup (11 – 13 March) Starting at Milan’s Duomo, one of the largest churches in the world, this classic annual race takes all those drivers up to Turin and along the Ligurian coastline to San Remo and onto Genoa.
In order to celebrate 150 years of Italian Unity an extremely rare collection of vehicles will also be exhibited through 150 years of the history of the locomotion.
Stay in one of Cottages to Castles’ wonderful properties on Lake Como or within Varese, and enjoy a day out to Verona’s carnival and just an hour away from Milan itself.
