My favourite . . . . .

It goes without saying that the entire team at Cottages to Castles have a real passion for all things Italian!

Be it the food (let’s face it there is plenty to choose from), the breathtaking land and seascapes, the people, the fashion, the culture and history, the cars, the traditions  . . . . . oh, the list is endless.

So every month, one of the team will let you in on their very own favourite Italian treat.  This month, Jonathan takes his turn to reveal a Sicilian gastronomic treat. 

This week I received an email from Jonathan, not unusual of course.  However this email was bursting with excitement and pure praise for the hidden gem he had managed to uncover.  For whilst in Sicily he met Liborio – owner of Ristorante del Golfo.

I shall allow Jonathan to tell the rest of his story.....

 “In conversation he told me of a restaurant that he owns and runs that all began from a passion he has had since he was just 10 years old where he would skin-dive fish (dive to fish without the usual oxygen tank).  A brave individual even at the tender age of 10 years old!

“Over the years he slowly built up his dream of opening a small restaurant serving only fresh fish (catch of the day).  Eleven years ago, after being in many a trade his dream became a reality and now his restaurant has won many awards and people come from all over Sicily to eat here. 

“Its exterior tells nothing of what lies inside, for once you step through the doors you'll never want to leave.  Seating only 40 people, all recipes are a combination of fresh fish (from just a few personally selected local fishermen) combined with seasonal vegetables.  

Nouvelle cuisine in style Ristorante del Golfo serves many small portions, each with an explosion of flavours.  We tasted 12 different antipasti and just managed to leave room for a mouth watering desert - a homemade 'Cassata Sicilian'.  Simply delicious!

Of course, nearly all the wines on the wine list are Sicilian.  Again, we tasted several of these (all so we could report back as honestly and accurately as possible of course!)
 
 It was simply an amazing experience and now I need to go back and experience the rest of the menu that Liborio has to offer!”
