The word ‘Siesta’ comes from the Latin meaning of the sixth hour (of light), which is around midday. For the northern Europeans this culture of sleeping mid-day is very strange and can be seen as lazy. However, after a long lunch with courses of pasta, breads and meats one usually requires a power nap followed by a passegiata, a short walk to blow away the cobwebs, and one can then begin again late afternoon with vigour and energy!
