General

Villa Leopoldina is a truly magnificent Tuscan idyll. Built in the 16th Century and recently restored to her original splendour, this large Leopoldine property is encircled by sweeping lush green well-tended gardens and tall green cypresses native to this particular region of Italy. Dine al fresco with the entire family in the cool shade of the covered gazebo and alongside the large swimming pool.

Although originally constructed to house the local farming communities, Villa Leopoldina is now more befitting for the more discerning traveller whom expects exceptional standards, attention to detail and appreciate comfort and the beauty of outdoor living.

Nestled just below the rolling hills of Tuscany, and with a wonderful view of the antique Etruscan town of Cortona, guests of Villa Leopoldina enjoy some of the most breathtaking of Italian sunsets.

Location

Villa Leopoldina is in an ideal spot for those who want to truly appreciate the Tuscan landscape that lies beyond and as far as the eye can see. Yet it is also within easy reach of the art cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa.

Only a few kilometres lies the small medieval town of Cortona with its magnificent panoramas across the South East of Tuscany. Steeped in history, the town is rich in artefacts from the Etruscan, Roman and Renaissance periods. And during the summer Cortona becomes a hive of activity hosting a whole number of festivals, art exhibitions, antique markets and gastronomic fairs.

There are also endless things to see and do nearby, with Perugia, Siena and Arezzo less than an hour’s drive away.

Arezzo with its turbulent and significant history is one of the most important cities of the Etruscan federation. It was the setting for Roberto Benigni’s La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful) and hosts a huge 500 exhibitor antique fair in Piazza Grande on the 1st weekend of every month.

Home to some of the most significant buildings and art houses, the 12th Century Santa Maria della Pieve is one of the most original examples of Romanesque architecture. The Duomo is also one of the greatest gothic monuments in Tuscany and houses highly valuable works of art. The San Francesco with its unique great truss-roofed nave is regarded as one of the most majestic examples of gothic monastic architecture in Tuscany. Its stunning frescoes depict the Legend of the True Cross regarded as one of the finest expressions of ideal aesthetics of the first renaissance.
