Some things in life really are just too good to be true. Antico Pastificio is one of them; an oasis of calm and pure Italian relaxation and yet amazingly so is located right in the heart of one of the most historic and bustling Tuscan towns. And this place really does have all things for all people!
The owners of this former pasta factory have restored it back to its once former glory and it is now home to 16 separate apartments, ranging in size and offering 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms and suites too.
It provides both a fantastic base to explore this area of Tuscany and a place to relax and enjoy time out too. The 'Guest Room' is a wonderful place for all residents to enjoy and includes a reading corner, cards table, ping-pong, pool table (small size), Wi-Fi, coffee machine, a communal fridge to keep those drinks out of the sun when whiling away the hours by the 10m x 5m swimming pool and a laundry room*.
Step outside to an oasis of lush green gardens, terrace area for al fresco dining, parasols, loungers, hammocks and a swimming pool. For the family there is a BBQ, pizza oven & al fresco dining spot, play-park and football pitch. Enjoy the weekly 'pizza night' organised by the friendly owners of Antico Pastificio.
All guests arrive to a warm welcome and are provided with a Guest Information Book to ensure you know all you need to know during your stay. It includes where to go, what to see, bus timetables, information regards local cooking classes and tours near and far. And if you do need a little more information, the resident's reception is open five hours each day with staff ready to help.
The clever restoration of the building allows appreciation of the high ceilings, the grand and imposing entrances, original terracotta floors and solid doors, beamed vaulted ceilings and beautiful frescoed walls; a real taste of history.
An excellent base to explore Tuscany, the apartments here at Antico Pastificio offer an alternative to the budget conscious who still require the space and standards of a larger villa.
*The use of the laundry room is charged at €2,00 per wash.
Just 300m away, the bustling piazza of Greve in Chianti, a popular hilltop Tuscan town is always a hive of activity and each Saturday even more so as it holds its weekly market. With a range of bars, restaurants and pizzerias there is always choice during your stay. In fact there is a 'special rate' for all residents of Antico Pastificio at the nearby pizzeria, so enjoy!
Greve right in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region is home to the largest wine fair in Chianti and is held every September. Wine tours and tasting experiences sweep as far as the eye can see.
The landscapes surrounding Greve offer some quite literally breathtaking hikes through the Monte San Michele Nature Park, but also pleasant strolls for those a little less adventurous! And for those who appreciate the historic artefacts this region has to offer, the church of Santa Croce houses some of the most magnificent paintings from the school of the Fra Angelico. Greve also houses the San Francesco Museum of Sacred Art. Originally built in the 16th Century and completed later in 1866, it has a collection of valuable ecclesiastical artefacts and artwork.
Explore the nearby quaint village of Lamole, known for its weekly concerts of classical music from July to September, it is definitely worth a visit. The famed hilltop town of Panzano is also a short distance with a popular Sunday market and an even more popular butcher/restaurateur. The New York Times and Le Figaro call him 'the world's most famous butcher' and is a favourite with celebrities and royalty alike. Dario Cecchini's empire to date extends to three restaurants all within the village with the simple premise; to offer really good food at a low price.
Greve is also within easy reach of the art cities of Florence (30km) and Siena (44km).
