Set in the heart of Umbria and such a medieval part of Italy you would be forgiven for thinking you had travelled back through the centuries, as you arrive at your very own castle estate. Amidst the woodland and the Perugian fields of gold and brown, rises the most romantic and picturesque scene – a small bridge over a pale blue babbling river leads to a pretty pink castle-like home. But what lies inside is the true surprise .......
A warm welcome awaits as Luigi the very hospitable owner invites you to step into your very own fairytale. This large estate has been lovingly restored to create a truly fantastic Italian holiday retreat, stylish, elegant and with an emphasis on fun and adventure. Everything has been considered to ensure all guests enjoy a warm and comfortable stay.
Outside there are extensive gardens, all well maintained and just waiting to be explored. All fenced in, it is secure and private yet with open views across the fields to the local town of Trevi that gleans in the distant sunshine. For the water babies, there is a wonderful 13m x 6m swimming pool with outside shower too.
And for the more adventurous, Luigi offers a range of different sized bicycles for hire. So head out and explore the local countryside. Luigi will advise on the best of routes, his favourite he tells us being a 42km route taking you through all the local medieval villages and towns in the province of Perugia. The owners are also happy to collect guests from Foligno railway station for a nominal charge so cars are not needed at this property.
Dining al fresco is an essential part of life here in Umbria during the summer months, and Luigi will be more than happy to whip up a delicious dinner from the brick-built wood burning oven and barbecue, to be enjoyed amongst the flora and fauna of the beautiful grounds.
Inside, this beautiful renovation has been carefully and considerately designed to retain its Italian charm and character yet provide a real contemporary and stylish place to while away the days. There are three separate dining rooms; the main and larger of the three has a beautiful vaulted ceiling and large open fireplace and during the summer the doors are opened to enjoy the wonderful covered terrazza with uninterrupted views of the Umbrian countryside.
Luigi and his family are most at home in the kitchen, baking their own bread and cakes using local or homemade produce where possible. Guests are invited to order dinner on request and welcome to accompany Luigi on his shopping excursion to select a choice of ingredients for the meals ahead. Should you wish to sample the true flavours of Italy or simply want to brush up on your own culinary skills, Luigi and his family also offer real Italian cooking courses, so you can eat what you purchased, grew and cooked during your stay!
The property consists of 6 individual apartments with spacious communal areas on the ground floor and outside amongst the grounds.
All 6 individual apartments have been designed and furnished with comfort and style in mind. Thought and care has been given to each and every detail here, where Italian charm meets with contemporary furnishings and modern conveniences. The exceptional high standards of modern fitments and en-suite bathrooms cleverly combines with the colour washed walls, tiled floors and breathtaking views from each window.
The white washed picturesque town of Trevi is perched on a hilltop amidst the Umbrian countryside and commands one of the best views in the region extending over 50 km. A warren of medieval narrow streets and enclosed by a circuit of walls, the town dates back to the Middle Ages. Trevi actually became known as one of only four towns in Italy during the 1400’s to have had a printing press managed by the first known printing company, and this can be seen in the number of Renaissance artwork in the local churches and mansions.
On the other side of the hills that dominate the skyline and in the heart of the Apennine mountains , is the medieval town of Norcia which is said to be older than Rome itself.
Trevi is an ideal position to explore the south of Umbria with towns such as Assisi, Foligno, Spoleto and the historic city of Perugia itself. Perugia itself it is famous for its art and its chocolate bacio (kiss). For all chocoholics or those who wish to experience a real Italian celebration, the chocolate festival in the centre of Perugia is hosted every October. Also home to two large universities along with a number of other training institutions, it sees a steady stream of foreign visitors and has successfully combined history with modern life.
Rich in tradition and art, the high Renaissance artists Pietro Perugino and later Raphael created some of his most famous masterpieces here. Today, the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia houses a number of masterpieces, including the Madonna with Child and six Angels which represents the Renaissance Marian art of Duccio.
Moving a little further from home; explore the world-wide famed towns of Assisi, the quiet home town of Saint Francis, Orvieto full of magnificent historical monuments and Perugia itself. This Umbrian walled town is brimming with history dating back to the Etruscan civilisation and has the most wonderful Duomo right in the heart of the city said to hold the Virgin’s wedding ring. The Palazzo dei Priori houses the National Art Gallery of Umbria in addition to three museums. For the party animals amongst you, take a trip to Spoleto and experience its world famous festival; an awesome celebration of dance, drama, music and opera.
This bright and colourful ground floor apartment has been designed for the less able amongst us and sleeps up to three guests in total. As with all apartments here, the attention to detail here is exceptional and guests are spoilt with top quality furnishings and modern conveniences such as air-conditioning and Wi-Fi connection throughout.
The sitting area offers a comfortable place to relax and contemplate and also combines to create a single bed. The small kitchen area has been cleverly designed to offer all you need to rustle up a meal or two, yet can be concealed to make for more space and comfort when finished. The double bedroom offers a wonderful king-sized bed, wardrobe, satellite TV and a safe large enough to house a laptop computer.
